Tashi Jong Monastery is a famous Tibetan monastery and it is situated at the base of Dhauladhar mountain range about 15 kilometres away from the Palampur. It is located in a village called Tashi Jong and it is about 2 kilometres away from the famous Baijnath temple. It was founded by the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche to preserve the traditional Tibetan culture, sacred arts and Buddhist heritage.
It is a little island of the Tibetan culture where around 300 people of that community live in a bid to pass on their sacred beliefs and art to the future generations. You can come here and witness the Tibetan culture. Apart from that, there is a carpet factory which you can visit. It is a beautifully built monastery and you will enjoy the colourful building and the paintings and many other relics of their culture.
A cultural festival is organized in every spring and you can enjoy the sacred lama dances done in the honour of the birthday of Guru Padmasambhava. These dances and rituals were performed by the Tibetans from hundreds of years and brought here by the Khamtrul Rinpoche to preserve it for future generations. It is considered very auspicious to witness these rituals. You can come here in the spring to view this festival and also enjoy the scenic beauty of Palampur.
