The largest lake in Himachal Pradesh, Renuka Lake situates 672 meters above sea level and at a distance of 38 kilometers from Nahan. With the circumference of 3214 meters, the lake situates in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The lake was included the Ramsar list, the list of the protected area of waterbody since 2005.
There is a good transportation facility to reach Renuka Lake. The adjacent zoo and a lion safari park add extra color to the place. Apart from these, there is a well-maintained boating facility in the lake.
This lake was named after Renuka Ji, wife of the great Saptarshi Jamudagni and the mother of Parshuram, who is believed to be the fifth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Renuka Ji is considered as incarnation of Durga Devi too.
There is a great festivity celebrated in the month of November on the occasion of Prabodhini Ekadashi. It is five long day festivals which in turn pave way for meeting between the mother Renuka Ji and son Parashu Ram. Every year thousands of people visit this place to enjoy the spiritual charm and take blessings.
