Mathura is the birthplace of Lord Krishna. When you visit Mathura and Vrindavan there are many stories that you would listen from the local residents about the various temples and every nook and corner of the city. Rangbhoomi is also once such place which holds a significant value in the story of Lord Krishna’s life.
According to the mythological stories Lord Krishna who was born in the prison cell was taken by his father to his friend’s place to save him from the demon king Kansa. When Lord Krishna grew up he was called by Kansa to Mathura. Rangbhoomi is the place where Lord Krishna had a fight with the wrestlers of demon King Kansa and killed all of them and eventually killed Kansa as well. So this is the place where an epic battle between Lord Krishna and demon King Kansa took place.
Rangbhoomi is located opposite the main post office of Mathura. There were many temples located around this place which were destroyed during the course of attacks by various plunders of history. You can still see the Buddhist monuments and buildings around the Rangbhoomi. Thousands of people visit this place every year. When you visit this place, you can still feel the aura and imagine the grand battle which took place hundreds of years before.
