Karma Dupgyud Choeling Monastery


Karma Dupgyud Choeling Monastery was established by Lama Chime Dorje Rinpoche in the 1970s and is taken care of by an order of Tibetan Buddhists called the Karmapa.

Karmapa means a person who follows all teachings of the Buddha and carries out all tasks enshrined in Buddhism. Currently, 17 Karmapas exist in the region. The monastery is dedicated to the cause of Tibetan way of Buddhism and the preservation of their way of life.

The monastery is located 10 kms from Leh. The structure consists of a unique mud and brick facility which houses Dukhang or the Assembly Hall; it also acts as the residence and workplace for the occupants. Apart from the housing, it also accommodates lesson rooms, lunchroom, workplace, kitchen as well as a library. Visitors coming here can invest energy in contemplation or in finding out about the Karmapa group.

The Karma Dupgyud Choeling Monastery is a peaceful abode where you can discover extraordinary tranquility and spiritual freedom. Various celebrations and pujas are held round the year at the monastery, including the Puja of Mani Thung Chur in which the recitation of mantras is done a million times.
