Kanpur Memorial Church was built in 1875 to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of the British army during the mutiny of 1857. It reminds us about the massive massacre of British troops that happened in 1857 during the first war of Indian Independence. It is away from the crowd of the city and a nice place to discover the inner and outer peace.
The church is built with red bricks and there is also a garden in the church complex. It was designed in the Lombardic Gothic style by Walter Granville who was also an architect with East Bengal Railway. The centre of the church has a structure of an angel with crossed arms which amplifies its beauty. It symbolizes peace and it was sculpted by Queen Victoria’s favourite sculptor. The interiors of the church are very beautiful and its walls are adorned with many epitaphs.
