Malana is one of the most ancient known villages in India. It is located in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The village is connected to one side of the Parvati Valley in the North East of Kullu valley and is isolated from the rest of world. You can reach the village only after covering 45 km from Kullu by bus and trekking for 4 hours. It is one of the most beautiful places in Himachal Pradesh. Jamula Temple is an ancient temple in this village and it is dedicated to Jamula Rishi.
Long time back a sage named Jamula Rishi, lived in Malana and laid down the rules and regulations for the local village people and they are followed till now. Malana is also called one of the oldest democracies in the world. They have a well-organized system like a parliament and follow the rules laid down by Jamula Rishi. The temple is very beautiful and it is made with wooden carvings and deer heads.
The temple also serves as a court now and important decisions related to the village are taken by the council elected by the local people and no interference from any outsider is tolerated. Malana offers you a peaceful place with exquisite views of Parvati valley. It is also famous for Malan cream which is the highest quality hashish.
