A historical place that deep-rooted in the lives of local people, the Jaitak Fort, stays at a distance of 15 kilometers from the main center of Nahan, Himachal Pradesh. The fort attracts people because of its historical importance as well as the political significance it had in the past.
Staying in a steep hill, at a height of 1479 meters above the sea level it offers a beautiful panoramic view of the valley down. It was built by the Gurkha leader Ranjor Singh Thapa and his folks in 1810. The most notable aspect behind this Jaitak Fort has been built out of the materials taken from the old Nahan Fort and the Palace. The main materials used for building the fort are granite stones and lime mortar.
It was in the surroundings of the fort that the historical war that won by the joined army led by Amar Singh Thapa was fought with the British army. Now some part of the fort is in a ruined state and still it is worthier to visit.
Apart from the joy of visiting a historical place, which makes this journey further valuable is the journey through greenery itself. As a result of the strategic construction, the surroundings of the fort offers a beautiful view of the valley down.
