Jagannathi Temple is one of the well-known tourist places as well as a religious spot in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. It is located in Bhekli at a distance of 10 kilometers from the Kullu bus stand. Jagannathi temple is otherwise known as the Bhekli temple. The archaeological evidence from the temple shows that it is 1500 years old.
As per the popular beliefs, a shepherd boy found that two girls dance according to flute which seemed to be very enchanting. Later the boy managed to catch one of them. It was Bhuvaneswari Devi herself and in accordance with her promise for the boy. she agreed to stay in the mountain. Hence, the idol worshipped in this temple belongs to Bhuvaneswari Devi, whom according to Hindu beliefs, a fifth aspect of goddess Shakti. The idol is worshipped and the manner in which it is decorated resembles a Rajasthani culture. There is an underlying note of the influence of Rajsthani culture upon the locals. It is important to note that the temple has a strong influence on the Gaddi people who pay a visit on a daily basis.
Apart from the religious and historical importance of the Jaganathi temple, the view of the Kullu valley and the surrounding mountains also makes it a favorite to everyone.
