Bhagsu is a small picturesque village near Mcleodganj in Dharamshala district. Bhagsunag temple is located in this village. The temple is dedicated to King Bhagsu and the snake god. According to an anecdote King Bhagsu came here in search of water and had a fight with the snake god in which he was defeated but was forgiven by the snake god. The temple was made in memory of this event.

The temple has become a major tourist attraction in the last few years and the people who visit Dharamshala and Mcleodganj also visit this temple. There is also a beautiful waterfall near the temple and you have to trek for around 45 minutes to reach the waterfall. It is a wonderful place to relax and relish the beauty of the Himalayas. The water is cold but is pure and fresh.

The place has a mix culture and Gorkhas settle here in the 18th century when the Gorkha regiment was found and they became the patrons of this temple. There are many Israelis who throng this place every year. This is a wonderful place for youngsters to enjoy trekking, cheap food and accommodation. The place is well connected by rail and air. The best time to visit the Bhagsunag temple is October and November, when the temperatures are conducive for a nice trip.
