Amter-Nadaun Fort is a hidden gem for travellers located in Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh. It is situated on a hilltop and can be seen from a distance. Even though the fort is not well maintained many visitors visit it in large numbers every year. It was the royal residence of Raja Sansar Chand, the most famous king of the region of Katoch dynasty. The fort has amazing wall paintings and frescos which attract tourists not only from India but around the world.
It is situated on the bank of the Beas River in the town named Nadaun. Nadaun was once the capital city of Kangra Empire. The ruler of Kangra lost to the great Mughal emperor Jahangir and lost the possession of the fort as well. The famous Kangra Valley is also located nearby. There is a famous temple of Shaktipeeth Jwala Ji in Kangra which is visited by thousands of devotees every year. So people who visit Amter can have the dual benefit of visiting both these places.
The place is very conveniently located and the nearest airport is only 80 kms away. Hamirpur is well connected with road and train network and you can reach here very easily. The best time to visit is the summer holidays as you can extend your trip and visit other hill stations as well.
